Beach Bums bounced

MARION, Ill. — The Traverse City Beach Bums were eliminated from the Frontier League playoffs with a 4-3 loss to Southern Illinois on Saturday night.

Javier Herrera homered again for the Miners, who struck for three runs off TC starter Brooks Belter in the first inning, including Herrera's two-run shot.

Traverse City loaded the bases with none out in the eighth, but Southern Illinois reliever came on to strike out Chase Burch and Jeff Flagg before Kyle Colligan singled in two runs.

Marcus Nidiffer singled in Flagg in the second to cut into the lead.

Belter took the loss, going only three innings and giving up four runs (three earned), five hits and two walks. Mike Devine, Jake Sabol and Matt Miller combined for five innings of scoreless relief to keep Traverse City in the game.

The Beach Bums finished with the Frontier League's best record at 64-32, seven games better than any other squad.
