-- Bellaire High School student Keegan McPhail is among 13 top students who will receive $1,000 college scholarships to encourage their pursuit of law enforcement/public safety careers by the professional public safety officers of the Law Enforcement Education Program (LEEP).

McPhail, who has a 3.11 GPA, plans to attend Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie to study Criminal Justice.

-- Monica Roosa Ordway, of Southbury, Conn., formerly of Traverse City, recently graduated with a Ph.D. in Nursing from Yale University School of Nursing in New Haven, Conn.

-- The Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District (TBAISD) recognizes the following Career-Tech Center (CTC) students who recently represented northern Michigan in several national competitions. Kingsley High School student, Makya Voight, a two-time state champion in marine service technology, placed 8th at the 2012 Skills USA National Competition, which took place June 23-27 in Kansas City, Mo. Elk Rapids student

Monica Jarvis and Kingsley student Karlee Hintsala, recent CTC graduates of the Early Childhood Education Program, were each awarded a bronze medal for demonstrating proficiency in the Early Childhood category of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) National Conference held July 8-12 in Orlando, Fla.
