Koch 2nd, Powell 3rd in Noquamenon

MARQUETTE — Traverse City's Jeff Koch finished second Saturday in the Noquamenon 50K freestyle ski race.

Koch had a time of 2:22:13. Houghton's Michael Brothers won in 2:20:35.

Traverse City's Ben Lannin placed sixth (2:25:31), Petoskey's Jim Harrington 14th (2:32:36), Grayling's Ryan Halstead 17th (2:32:43) and Traverse City's Scott Howard 21st (2:33:50).

Lake Ann's Amy Powell took third in the women's 50K with a time of 2:44:11. Traverse City's Sue Vigland was fifth (2:49:04). Ironwood's Paulette Niemi was the winner in 2:41.

In the men's 50K classic, Williamsburg's Eli Brown came in sixth (2:38:16) and Milan Baic 16th (2:47:36).

Traverse City Central's Andrew Bruning won the 24K freestyle (1:02:14). Bruning sprinted to the finish and won by less than a second, beating a field of 203 skiers. Traverse City's Cliff Onthank was fourth (1:02:18) and John O'hearn ninth (1:05:33).

Traverse City's Laura Webb was fifth in the women's race (1:12:37).

Walloon Lake's Brendan Baic won the men's 12K freestyle (30:43).

In the 12K classic, Traverse City's Larry Brownell was second (38:56), Kyle Dotterrer third (39:01), Sean Brownell fourth (39:52) and Tim Brownell fifth (41:58). Lauren Pflughoeft was sixth, and the first woman to finish (42:07). Traverse City's Kendall Minor was second (46:42).

Pflughoeft finished third in the Junior Noque 5K freestyle (16.40).
