MANISTEE —
Police believe a Benzonia man drowned while attempting to retrieve his boat.
Michigan State Police said it appears Kevin Bromstead, 61, drowned in Glover's Lake in Manistee County's Pleasanton Township on Sunday at about 8 a.m. A witness called authorities after they saw a man calling for help in the water, but they were unable to get to him before he went under water.
A trooper found a small boat registered to Bromstead at the scene. It appears Bromstead's boat floated away from shore, and he drowned trying to recover it.
