-- Two carloads of steel arrived this morning for use on construction work of the new post office building. The floor is being put on the addition and the steel will be used largely in its construction, which will be absolutely fireproof.
-- Mark Craw, local conservation officer, planted 5,000 fingerling black bass in the Boardman River between Cass and Eighth streets. They came from the U.S. fish hatchery in Wisconsin. It is the intention of the local fishermen to make Boardman Lake an ideal fishing ground and it can be done so with a little careful attention. This is a sport that attracts summer people from all parts of the country.
-- The large fish warehouse in Northport belonging to the Peterson Bros. was discovered on fire Sunday morning and in spite of the efforts of the volunteer fire department the building and contents were consumed, inflicting a loss of $5,000 with no insurance. The fish house of Peter Anderson, located close by, also caught fire and was consumed with a loss of $4,000. Peterson Bros. lost besides a large stock of fish several fishing boats, including their large gasoline launch. It is supposed that the fire caught from a homemade stove in the warehouse
-- Ernest Antoine, the 15-year-old son of Mrs. Ed Antoine in Solon, died last week of typhoid pneumonia following a two-week illness and was buried in the Solon cemetery. Ernest was a very popular young man and much liked in the community.
-- A meeting was held in the parlors of the Hotel Whiting this morning to discuss the matter of asking the Pere Marquette railroad to restore the six o-clock train out of here for the south. This is a matter of vital importance to the traveling public and especially to the traveling men who reside in the city and have to work south in the early morning. It was decided to circulate a petition among the business men asking for their signatures.

-- Roy Gibbs of Cour D Leine, Idaho, was visiting friends in Mayfield last week and will go back there and probably make his future home there.
-- Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ulonska celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Albert Garbe, 201 North Oak Street Saturday evening with a dinner party. They were married in Danzig, Germany and have just recently come here to live. One of the most interesting features of the evening was when the venerable couple received a cablegram of congratulations from their daughters in Germany. This is the first cablegram ever received in Traverse City and it will be cherished by the recipients for many years to come.
