TRAVERSE CITY — Will Badner said he's scored four goals in a game before.
He just can't remember when.
"It's been awhile," he said.
Badner netted four goals Sunday afternoon as the Traverse City North Stars closed out the regular season with a 6-1 North American Hockey League win over Jamestown at Centre ICE.
Badner scored three of his goals in the second period, wiping out a 1-0 Jamestown lead.
"I have great teammates," he said. "They helped me out a lot today."
Badner, who had a team-high 24 goals, tied the game on a power play just 1:04 into the second period. Nathan Harris and Chris Leibinger assisted. Badner gave the Stars the lead 14:02 into the period off a Seth Adam set-up. Four minutes later, he increased the lead to 3-1 with a goal off an Alexander Taulien assist.
The North Stars (34-20-6) scored three more goals in the third period. Jared Van Wormer converted off an assist from Harris. Badner notched his fourth goal off assists from Chris Waterstreet and Leibinger. Kyle Schempp closed it out with a shorthanded goal. Frank Gilbert assisted.
Zach Nagelvoort stopped 19 shots ion goal.
"This was a good game for us because we didn't play our best Saturday night (3-2 win)," Badner said. "It was nice to end on a good note. Hopefully, this will take us right into next week."
The Stars open the playoffs next weekend at Kalamazoo.
The teams split their 12 meetings this season 6-6.
"Hopefully, we can make a good run," Badner said. "We have to play our game and work hard."
