Selma 'Sallie' June Baxter

TRAVERSE CITY — Selma "Sallie" June Baxter was granted her angel wings on Feb. 2, 2012, at the age of 89. Although Selma (Sallie, as she was known affectionately) was born in Holt on Feb. 22, 1923, she spent her entire life in the "north woods" of Suttons Bay and Traverse City, enjoying the beautiful region.

She was a homemaker, loving, devoted wife to Maynard N. Baxter and wonderful mother and grandmother.

Her interests included family, cooking many marvelous meals and devoting much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members, including her mother, sister-in-law and husband until they passed away.

She was an active advocate and president of the guild at Medical Care/Pavilions for years and was a familiar face to many staff members and patients.

She will be well remembered for her smiling face, gracious spirit, kind words and her love over the years for her two special pet corgis, Jena and Sarafina, who brought her much delight.

She is survived by her son, Randall (Sarah) Baxter; her daughter, Tammie (Donald) McMaster; her grandchildren, Kelly Baxter, Aaron McMaster, Morgan Baxter and Jayme McMaster; and her sister, Leona Soappman.

A memorial service will be planned to be held in the upcoming summer season. Burial will take place at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Traverse Pavilions - Alzheimer's wing or the Salvation Army.
