Charles L. 'Chuck' Drews

LAKE ANN — Charles Leonard "Chuck" Drews, 81, of Lake Ann, died Monday, March 26, 2012, at his home.

He was born April 19, 1930, in Saginaw, the son of Charles and Marion (Young) Drews.

Chuck graduated from Manistee High School in 1948. He continued his studies at Michigan Technological University, where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering and entered the ROTC program. He went on to take graduate courses at the University of Michigan and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force.

Chuck worked at Dow Chemical, in Ludington, for 34 years. He retired as the Bromine Plant Superintendent.

He was a proud member of the Lake Ann Lions Club and had served as the Treasurer. He was a gifted craftsman who enjoyed fixing and making things. In his spare time, he enjoyed feeding the birds, fishing, and photography. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family, especially with his children and grandchildren.

On May 15, 1980, in Benzonia, Chuck married Shirley Joy Lake Strickler, who survives him. He is also survived by his children, Stephen (Linda) Drews, of Freeland, Kathleen (Donald) Wray, of Roscommon, David (Joylynn) Drews, of Gaylord, Thomas (Cynthia) Drews, of Traverse City, Jeffrey (Shelly) Drews, of Traverse City, Andrew (Sue Inderhees) Drews, of Ann Arbor, and Paul (Tia) Strickler, of Hudsonville; 20 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and another on the way; his sisters, Virginia Hill, of Kalamazoo, and Cheryl Lake, of Muskegon; his brother-in-law, Louis (Shelley) Lake, of Troy; his beloved cat, Tobey; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers-in-law, Earl Hill and Willard Lake.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening, March 28, at Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 29, at the funeral home, with Mr. Donald E. Wray officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Lake Ann Lions Club.
