VERO BEACH, Fla. — Ruth Morris Solem, a resident of Vero Beach, Fla., died Oct. 16, 2012, at her home.

For many years she summered in Suttons Bay with her husband, Anson, prior to his death, and afterwards. He was a native of Suttons Bay.

She was born in Punxsutawney, Pa. Her early years were spent in western Pennsylvania.

She was a graduate of Ohio University and did graduate work at the University of Maine.

She was a civilian employee of the U.S. Navy Department in the Washington, D.C. area for 29 years. At the time of her retirement, she was Head of Industrial Security for the Naval Air Systems Command.

She was a member of the American Society for Industrial Security, the Vero Beach Country Club and the Vero Beach Yacht Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Anson; her parents, George and Alice Morris; her brother, Robert; and her sister, Alice.

She is survived by four nephews, Robert Morris, of Maryland, George Morris, of Pennsylvania, and Frank and Anson Solem, of California. She is also survived by many cousins, including Ray and Thea Kellogg, of Michigan.

Burial services in Suttons Bay will be private.
