ROYAL OAK — Athan E. "Ace" Zographos, age 92, passed away peacefully on Oct. 19, 2012. He was a longtime resident of Royal Oak and Petoskey.
Ace served his country as a member of the US Army in World War II and was also a longtime member of the PGA. He shared his love of basketball through coaching at Michigan State University, Berkley High School, and Petoskey High School where he took his team to the State Finals in 1951.
He was the beloved husband of Mary B. (Bataskis) Zographos for 61 years. Also, surviving are two sisters, Emily Bielat (Russell) and Elizabeth Kennedy (Jack) and many dear friends.
Ace's quiet demeanor, quick wit and charm will be missed by all those fortunate enough to know him.
Visitation is Tuesday, Oct. 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, Traverse City. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 11 a.m. at the Archangel Gabriel Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Traverse City with military honors.
