Mary Louise Thornell

TRAVERSE CITY — Mary Louise Thornell, 85, of Traverse City, died March 24, 2012, at the Grand Traverse Pavilions in Traverse City.

She was born in Mio on March 11, 1927, the daughter of Charles and Dola (Henderson) Boerner. At three-years-old Mary's mother passed away and Mary went to live with her aunt, Selma and Floyd Shumway.

She graduated from Mesick High School and went off to Ferris State College.

Mary worked at Zimmerman's Drug Store at the soda fountain.

She met and married Lloyd Thornell on Oct. 3, 1948, and they had a daughter, Linda.

Mary also worked for Schulers Restaurant then retired from Burwood Products.

Mary and Lloyd moved from Traverse City to Mesick, staying there until Lloyd passed in 2001. Mary then lived with her daughter, Linda, then moved to the Indian Trail A.F.C. For the last seven years she lived at the Pavilions. Thank you to all of her caregivers. Thank you all for the prayers, cards and visits. We will miss her deeply.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Thornell; grandchildren, Charlie, Jeremy and James Farris; stepson, Ken Thornell; grandchildren, Jason and Jessica; great-grandchildren; and brothers, Roy and Russell Boerner.

A celebration of Mary's life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 1, 2012, at the Mesick United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Crystal Lake Twp. Cemetery East.

Contributions may be directed toward Hospice of Michigan.
