NEWBERRY — Donald W. Bellaw, 72, of Newberry, went to be with the Lord on April 1, 2012, following a lingering illness.

The son of Donald and Dorothy Bellaw, he was born July 15, 1939, in Traverse City. He was married to Iris Gierok in 1990.

Don was a Traverse City resident most of his life. A hard worker, he was employed at Grand Traverse Auto as a mechanic; and Peninsula Asphalt and Elmer's as a heavy equipment operator for more than 30 years.

Retiring to the north woods of Newberry, Donald was a member of St. Gregory's Church of Newberry.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Bellaw.

He is survived by his wife, Iris Bellaw, of Newberry; father, Donald A. Bellaw, of Traverse City; three sisters, Sandra (Robert) Valleau, of Indian River, Suzi (Denny) Reamer, of Traverse City, Barbara (Mike) Webster, of Tustin; son, William D. "Billy" Bellaw, of Traverse City; daughter, Babbette (Scott) Wilson-Bellaw, of Kingsley; step-sons, James R. Gierok and Nathan L. Davis, of Traverse City; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today, April 3, at Life Story Funeral Home, Traverse City.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, at the funeral home, with Fr. James Hayden as celebrant. Don will be laid to rest at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
