Wendell C. Richards

ELK RAPIDS — Wendell C. Richards, 78, of Elk Rapids, passed away July 1, 2012, at Munson Medical Center. He was born Aug. 23, 1933, in Chesaning, to Paul and Helen (Seifert) Richards.

Wendell worked for over 10 years in Alaska as a crane operator. He retired from the Operating Engineers Union and returned to Elk Rapids. After retirement he started his own business, Roof King, which he operated until his passing.

Wendell was a past member of the Lions Club and served as a Vice District Governor. He also was a member of the Sons of Amvets.

In his spare time he enjoyed watching sports, reading and listening to classical music.

Wendell had a big heart. He would often see a need and step in without being asked. It was not uncommon for Wendell to drop everything he was doing to help someone in need. He will be greatly missed by many friends and family.

Wendell is survived by his wife, Nancy Lynn Richards, of Elk Rapids; children, Kent Richards, Wayne Richards, Barry Richards, Jeffrey Richards, Curtis Scott, Sandra Johnson, Ann Margaret Richards, Paula Kay Richards and Jennifer Thomas; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Phoebe Spohn; brother, Paul Richards; daughters of his heart, Wendy Hamminga and Jamie Kozlowski; and stepdaughters, Robin Haveman and Colleen Forton.

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, July 28, 2012, from noon to 3 p.m., at Wendell and Nancy’s home, 8202 Cairn Highway, Elk Rapids, MI.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Elk Rapids.
