TRAVERSE CITY — "Whiskers" Ronald James Moody, 62, of Traverse City, formerly of Warren, Mass., beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2012, doing what he loved the most, riding his motorcycle.
Ron was born July 2, 1949, in Ware, Mass., to Albert E. and Margaret A. Moody. After graduating high school in 1967, Ron married his childhood sweetheart, Rosemary "Ginger" Crespo.
In 1968, Ron enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country in the Vietnam War and while stationed at Kingsville, Texas, Naval Air Station, their only son, David, was born in 1970. After being honorably discharged, Ron and Ginger moved to Traverse City.
Ron was employed as a machinist by Sheffer Collett for 28 years and became the UAW Union Local president for many years.
After retiring from Sheffer Collett, Ron pursued his dream and went to MMI for motorcycle technician training in Orlando, Fla.
After graduating, he worked as a technician at a Harley Davidson shop for two years.
Ron was a member of F.O.E. Traverse City Post, Harley Owners Group and for the past 18 years a dedicated member of the Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club.
Ron lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, spending time with his family and traveling. Ron and Ginger took a three-week trip on their Harley Davidson to New Orleans, Albuquerque, N.M., and the Grand Canyon this past October.
Ron is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Ginger Moody; son, David A. Moody; the two "shooting stars" in his life - granddaughter, Brittiney and grandson, Killian; brother, Dr. Wayne (Lauren) Moody; sister, Peggy (Jose) Olegario; one niece and four nephews. He also leaves behind many, many friends from all over the country who will forever miss him, his sense of humor, his love of life and passion for riding his bike.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law; aunt, Rhoda; and his grandparents.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 24, at 2 p.m., with visitation one hour prior, at East Bay Calvary Church, 2225 Hammond Road, Traverse City. Visitation will also be held on Friday, March 23, from 4 to 9 p.m., also at the church.
