Elizabeth J. 'Betty' Jenkinson

TRAVERSE CITY — Elizabeth J. "Betty" Jenkinson, 84, of Traverse City, died Sunday morning, July 22, 2012, at French Manor Senior Living, comforted by her loving daughters.

Born Oct. 22, 1927, in Belle Fountain, Ohio, she was the daughter of Evert and Elsie (Andersen) Fisher. On June 12, 1948, in Springfield, Ohio, she married Stanley "Stan" Jenkinson, who preceded her in death on Aug. 13, 2010.

Betty graduated from Whittenberg College in Ohio, where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.

She and her husband later moved to Bay City, where she worked as an elementary school teacher for a number of years.

Following their retirement they moved to Traverse City.

Along with her husband, they formerly owned and operated the Waterland Motel and the Restwood Motel in Traverse City. The Jenkinsons were very gracious and helpful in attending to the needs of their guests.

As her hobbies, she enjoyed all crafts, painting, cooking and reading.

Betty and her husband always looked forward to the summer months when they could spend time on their boat at Clinch Park Marina. He was an avid fisherman and would often share his catch with others. She was affectionately known as "Mother Superior," always watching over the marina, greeting family, friends and whomever was walking by on the dock.

Betty will be truly remembered for her outgoing, hospitable personality.

She is survived by her two daughters, Deborah Jenkinson and Diane Jenkinson, both of Traverse City; sister-in-law, Carol Kilby, of Bradenton, Fla.; three grand-cats and one grand-dog; along with two nieces and one nephew.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Albert and Bud Fisher.

Memorial services will be held at French Manor Senior Living on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Becky Chamberlain officiating.

In remembrance of Betty, memorials may be directed to the Cherryland Humane Society.

Kindly share your memories with the family on their online guestbook at www.reynolds-jonkhoff.com.

Arrangements were made with the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
