Ruth Barber Taisey

TRAVERSE CITY — Ruth Barber Taisey died peacefully on Saturday, July 21, in Farmington Hills, surrounded by her family, at the age of 90.

Ruth was born on Jan. 27, 1922, in Rapid City, the daughter of Elizabeth and Howard Barber. Ruth was the wife of the late Elward Taisey, with whom she shared 63 years of marriage.

Ruth grew up in Rapid City and graduated from Rapid City High School in 1939.

She married Elward Taisey on Aug. 9, 1941, and they made their home in the Detroit area.

She was the food service coordinator at the Birmingham Community House for many years.

Upon retirement Ruth and Elward moved to Deep Water Point on Torch Lake and spent 20 years traveling in their motor home visiting friends and family all over the country and spending winters in Lake Havasu, Ariz.

In retirement Ruth was a volunteer for hospice.

Ruth enjoyed cooking, crocheting and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Throughout her life she valued her many close friendships. Ruth resided in the Presbyterian Village of Redford for the last four years.

Ruth leaves three children, Janet (William) Taisey Craft, of Ipswich, Mass., Connie (Kent) Taisey Reinhold, of Mesa, Ariz., and Jon (Pat) Taisey, of Ferndale; six grandchildren, Easton and Alexander Craft, Allison Reinhold, Lindsay Poetz and Christopher and Erin Taisey; and four great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Hannah and Liam Craft and Aiden Reinhold Hajric.

She was predeceased by her three brothers and two sisters, Russell Barber, Clayton Barber, Lawrence Barber, Idela Crothers and Helen Deater.

There will be a memorial service in Mancelona in October.
