F. Paul Meeuwenberg

TRAVERSE CITY — F. Paul Meeuwenberg, 94, longtime resident of Leelanau County, passed away with family at his side Friday, July 27, 2012, at Glen Eagle in Traverse City. Paul was born on March 15, 1918, to the late Henry and Fanna (Poll) Meeuwenberg, in Fremont.

On Feb. 15, 1947, Paul entered into marriage with the former Marie Magdalene Winowiecki, who preceded him in death in 2009. Paul and Marie enjoyed many years together sharing the joy of traveling and gardening.

Paul was a lifelong member of the Elks Club, VFW and an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a formidable opponent while playing cards, especially enjoying games of cribbage, Texas hold'em and euchre. Paul had a great sense of humor with a ready smile for all.

Paul is survived by his children; two sons, Richard (Kerriann), of Newaygo, and Gene (Marleen), of Traverse City; daughter, Connie (Russ) Fifarek, of Farmington, Minn.; six adored grandchildren, Leah, Brian, Annemarie, Levi, Tracy and Tron; 10 great-grandchildren; and several other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Marie; and a sister, Doris (John) Larabee.

Per Paul's wish, cremation has taken place, and no services will be held.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the VFW Cherryland Post 2780 or the Father Fred Foundation.
