FRANKFORT — Donald E. Minard passed away April 16, 2012, at age 93. He was born on Sept. 20, 1918, in Flushing, and was the son of Laura and William F. Minard.
Don was preceded in death by his wife, Miriam J. Williams Minard.
His surviving children are Juliet A. Minard, Susan J. Kuddes, John D. Minard and Martha W. Minard. Grandchildren include Andrew "Rudy" L. Stensaas, Emma R. Stensaas, William J. Hilzinger, Hannah L. Hilzinger, Daniel Kuddes, Donald J. "D.J." Kuddes, Christopher J. Minard and Miriam V. Minard.
Don was a World War II veteran who worked on General Eisenhower's staff in London and Algeria before and during the war.
A graduate of University of Michigan Business School, Don worked most of his professional career as a manager at Steketee's Dept. Store in Grand Rapids.
Don and Miriam raised their four children in Grand Rapids. He was described as a gentleman with sparkling blue eyes and a broad smile.
Don loved jazz music, gourmet cooking, gardening and going up north with his family.
Upon retirement, he and Miriam moved to the family cottage at Crystal Highlands in Beulah and later to a condo at Michigan Shores in Frankfort. Don was involved in many activities at Michigan Shores, was a member of the Frankfort United Methodist Church and was active in the local Kiwanis Club. He will remain in our hearts in spirit as a fine example of how to live an ethical and long life.
Services will be held on Monday, Aug. 6, at 11 a.m., at the Frankfort United Methodist Church. Luncheon and celebration of Don's life will continue after the service at the Kirkwood home at 1136 Michigan Avenue in Frankfort.
