Vera Ella Kocsis

ONEKAMA — Vera Ella Kocsis, of Onekama, danced her last dance on Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at the age of 90. She was born July 26, 1922, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Talaba) Knasko.

Vera graduated from Roosevelt High School then received an associate degree from Wright Junior College while still in Chicago.

Her early work involved making dentures for a local dental lab and taking airline reservations. She was employed by Ravenswood Hospital as an admissions clerk for 10 years before marrying Joseph Peter Kocsis on July 20, 1957.

Vera continued association with Ravenswood for another 20 years as a volunteer.

She and Joseph, as a team, taught ballroom dancing and shared an interest in gardening, bowling and fishing.

Vera was a member of The Women of The Moose in Chicago.

Besides spending time with her daughter, Camille, Vera also enjoyed reading fiction, knitting and traveling.

She is survived by her daughter, Camille Kocsis, of Manistee; one stepdaughter, Sharon (Ken) Montgomery, of Allegan; step grandchildren, Jeffery, Lorraine, Joey, Kelly and Matthew; and step great-grandchildren, Amanda, Tangela, Trevor, Adrian, Spencer, Kasondra and Carter; and step great-great-grandchildren, Paul, Laura and Emma.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Kocsis, on Feb. 25, 2004; her infant sister, Natalie; and stepson, Joey.

The family will receive friends at Oak Grove Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Bear Lake on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, from 3 to 7 p.m., with memory sharing at 6 p.m. Cremation will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Manistee.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Vera's memory may be made to the Portage Lake Association, PO Box 493, Onekama, MI 49675, denoting "Memorial for Vera Kocsis — Petunia Parade"; or Manistee County Humane Society's Homeward Bound Animal Shelter, PO Box 144, Manistee, MI 49660.

The family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Oak Grove Funeral Home and Cremation in Bear Lake.
