INTERLOCHEN — Raymond "Ray" W. Horton, age 70, of Interlochen, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012. He was born Jan. 23, 1942, in Pontiac to Donald and Doris (Osborne) Horton.
Ray served his country in the U.S. Navy for two years.
On Aug. 12, 1961, Ray married Sharon Clarke in Drayton Plains. Together they raised four children.
Ray worked for 24 years for Petroleum Abstract and Title in Traverse City.
He and his wife were avid square dancers and were members of the Buttons and Bows dance club. Ray enjoyed calling at local square dances. He was a skilled wood worker and was often found working on some wood project in his garage.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Sharon; children, Michelle (Bill) Traylor, of Kingsley, Raymond Jr. (Fredia) Horton, of Traverse City, Kimberly (Mark) Porter, of Karlin, and Laura Page, of Traverse City; 12 grandchildren, J.J., David, Amanda, Raymond III, Brooke, Shana, Kameron, Tessa, Edward, Ryan, Justin and Tyler; and four great-grandchildren, Connor, Aubrey, Cayden and Raelee.
Besides his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Lee Horton.
A memorial service is being planned for the spring.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Cherryland Humane Society.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
