BENZONIA — Juanita Lillie Cady, 84, of Benzonia, passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, with family by her side while staying at the Homesteader Assisted Living Facility in Benzonia.
Juanita was born Sept. 10, 1928 to George and Ruth Hanmer of Flint. Juanita graduated from Benzonia High School in 1946 and married Veryl Cady on Sept. 20, 1946. They enjoyed almost 50 years of marriage before he passed away in June 1996. Juanita and Veryl owned and operated Cady IGA Store and Laundromat, (Benzonia Wesco) for many years. After selling the store Juanita worked at the Benzie Central High School cafeteria where she retired after years of service. For the nearly 40 years of their marriage they raised their family in Benzonia before moving to Florida. After the passing of Veryl, Juanita decided to move back to Benzonia to be closer to her children.
Juanita is survived by her four children, Charlene Hulsey of Grand Rapids, Cynthia (Roger) Chorley of Beulah, Carol (Daniel) Moore of Honor and Edward Cady of San Antonio, Texas; 13 grandchildren, Tara Hulsey, Tom Hulsey, Travis Husley, Bryan ( Megan) Chorley, Amanda (Jeremy) Burrows, Brent (April) Moore, Samantha (Alan) Newstead, Ronnie Cady and Nathan Cady; and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Willard (Marilyn) Hanmer of Ocala, Fla., brother-in-law, Ralph Rowe of Nunica, sister-in-law, Pearl Kuenzer of Bear Lake, and numerous nephews and nieces.
In addition to her husband, Juanita was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Carolyn; her sister, Winona Rowe; and her parents, George and Ruth Hanmer.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home, in Beulah, with Pastor Matthew Mabey officiating. Interment will be in Benzonia Township Cemetery in the spring. Visitation will held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
