TRAVERSE CITY — David Allen Rutkowski, age 61, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City. David was born on Dec. 6, 1951, in Grayling, to the late Colonel Edmund A. Rutkowski (retired), and Shirley (Carriveau) Rutkowski ,who survive him.
Dave proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1975 to 1982, at which time he was honorably discharged.
David enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf and was an avid reader.
David is survived by his beloved daughters, Melisa (Brett) Castillo, of Traverse City, and Sarah Rutkowski, of Elk Rapids; his cherished grandchildren, Shae and Sophie Castillo and Simon David Rutkowski; and five brothers and sisters, Linda Franklin, of Traverse City, Rick Rutkowski, of Crested Butte, Colo., Kathie Piper, of Traverse City, Debbie Rutkowski, of Grayling, and Mary Kolka, of Traverse City. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Mark and Eric Franklin, Amanda (Brian) Tessier, Sarah Piper, Dustin Parks and Andrea Kolka.
A memorial service will take place at the VFW Hall in Traverse City, Jan. 19, 2013, at noon.
In accordance with Dave's wishes, cremation has taken place.
