Donna M. 'Dolly' Birgy

FIFE LAKE — Donna M. "Dolly" Birgy passed away at her home in Fife Lake on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, surrounded by her devoted family. Dolly was born on Jan. 24, 1934, in Fife Lake, to the late Otto A. and Helen M. (Carlisle) Birgy.

Upon her graduation from the Kalkaska High School, Dolly moved to Saginaw until her return to Fife Lake in 1983.

Dolly retired from a lifelong career at Michigan Bell, working for locations in both Saginaw and Traverse City. Shortly after her retirement from Michigan Bell Dolly worked part time for the Kalkaska County Sheriff's Department for an additional 13 years.

Dolly enjoyed numerous hobbies and passions. As a lifelong bowler she was a member of countless leagues and frequently qualified for tournaments in Nevada over the years. Dolly grew up loving the game of baseball and became a t-ball and Little League coach with the Garfield Athletic Club for numerous years. Accompanying that love was her passion for the Detroit Tigers and collecting baseball cards.

Dolly was heavily involved and committed to family. Her love of genealogy was shared with other family members, and Dolly coordinated family reunions for many years. Although Dolly had no children of her own, her dedication and ownership of nieces and nephews throughout different generations was immeasurable, leaving an enduring influence on each and every one of them.

Dolly additionally enjoyed golfing; she was a classic country music enthusiast, loved the outdoors and was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Fife Lake.

Dolly is survived by her siblings, Ronald L. (Barbara Ann) Birgy, Joyce (Clarence) Hahn, Otto J. (Shirley) Birgy, all of Fife Lake, Virgil R. (Hazel) Birgy, of Newberry, and Ruth Ann Birgy, of Grayling.

Preceding Dolly in death was her brother, Robert O. Birgy.

Visitation will be today, Feb. 6, from 5 until 9 p.m., at Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home, with a rosary recitation and prayer service taking place in the last hour. The funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, Feb. 7, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Fife Lake, with services beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Garfield Twp. Cemetery in the spring.
