FRANKFORT — Kristin Elise Hollenbeck, 61, of Frankfort, died Nov. 3, 2012, at the Maples. She was the daughter of the late William W. and Nina T. Hollenbeck, born Nov. 21, 1950, in Frankfort, where she was also raised.
Kris graduated from Frankfort High School. She then attended Central Michigan University, where she made many lifelong friends and earned her bachelor's degree in English.
Kris was a much loved and enthusiastic teacher at Mesick Consolidated Schools for 25 years. She taught various classes including English, literature and yearbook and put on many school plays. She loved her students and enjoyed watching them grow to be productive adults.
After her retirement from teaching she worked for the Record Patriot as a reporter and assistant editor. She really enjoyed writing articles, and her fans enjoyed reading them. Kris had a deep passion for politics and served as a Benzie County Commissioner for two years. She was an active member of the Benzie County Democrats and attended Trinity Lutheran Church.
Kris had the biggest heart. She was always there to help out a friend, listen and offer advice or whatever she had. She enjoyed gardening, listening to music, being outdoors and the thrill of writing. Her laugh was one of her best attributes and her wit was unmistakable.
She loved her family more than anything and was extremely excited to be a grandmother of three.
She is survived by her children, Kelly (Josh) Acre Piersma, Michael Acre and Amy Acre; grandchildren, Xacheriah and Xaria Davis; brother, William (Cindy) Hollenbeck; sister, Sara Hollenbeck; niece, Lisa Stewart; nephew, Tom Hollenbeck; and her significant other, Gary Brems.
