Thomas Harry Pouncey

EMPIRE — Thomas Harry Pouncey, 58, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Tom was born in Royal Oak to Harry and Cay Pouncey, who both preceded him in death. He grew up in Ferndale and White Lake. He later had a horse farm in Fenton near where his brother, Ron Pouncey, and sister, Janice MacCaughan, still live.

Tom was a member of the International Operating Engineers Union Local 324 and was an excellent crane operator. He moved to Leelanau County permanently in 2000 to start his own mobile crane business, Manitou Crane Service.

Tom was a past board member of the Michigan Trail Riders Association and loved to ride horses. He was truly a "horse-whisperer" and animal lover. He and his wife, Linda, built a horse ranch near Empire, close to the Shore-To-Shore Trail, just so their horse friends could come stay and ride.

Tom is survived by his wife, Linda (Barrett) Pouncey; his faithful dog, Indy; and his favorite horse, Thunder.

A celebration of life will continue forever around the campfire at The Pouncey Ponderosa.

If you care to make a donation in his name, please do so to either the Cherryland Humane Society, where he adopted his beloved dog; the Alzheimer's Association; or to Hospice of Michigan, whose compassionate help towards the end was so very much appreciated.

Please visit Tom's webpage at www.lifestorynet.com to sign the guest book and share a message with his family.

The family chose Life Story Funeral Home, Traverse City, to handle the cremation.
