Edith Naomi Helferich

ARCADIA — Edith Naomi Helferich, age 89, of Arcadia, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at the Birchwood AFC Home in Manistee.

She was born on March 3, 1923, in Eaton Rapids, the daughter of the late Arthur and Mabelle (Wheeler) Rogers. She attended school in Eaton Rapids.

She married Harvey Helferich in Lansing in 1941, and they moved to Arcadia in 1947. Prior to his death on May 17, 2011, Edith and Harvey celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2011.

Edith is survived by her son, Dennis (Karen) Helferich, of Brethren; her daughters, Sue Ann (Bob) Wheeler, of Lansing, and Wanda (Dale McQuillin) Helferich, of Bear Lake; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Helferich, of Arcadia; a sister-in-law, JoAnn (Rufus) Blaylock, of Traverse City; seven grandchildren, Dennis Helferich Jr., of Altus, Okla., Denise (Dan) Mitchell, of Detroit, Bruce and Sharon Wheeler, both of Grand Ledge, Minda (Tim) Jones, of Bear Lake, Amanda (Matt) Socher, of Grand Rapids, and Jeremiah McQuillin, of Bear Lake; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Brian Helferich; daughter in law, Marilyn (Dennis) Helferich, of Walker; and siblings, Wallace Rogers, of Eaton Rapids, and Mildred (Floyd) Brooks, of Arcadia.

Memorial services for Edith N. Helferich will be held Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at 2 p.m., at the Arcadia United Methodist Church, with the Reverend David Selleck officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 p.m. until time of service.

Memorials in Edith's name may be directed to the Arcadia Methodist Church Women.

Edith will always be remembered in the Arcadia area as "The Bread Lady."

The family has entrusted the Oak Grove Funeral Home and Cremation Center of Bear Lake with funeral arrangements.
