TRAVERSE CITY — John Richard Patterson, 89, of Traverse City, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, at Bortz Health Care in Traverse City.
John was born on Saturday, Dec. 2, 1922, to the late Harry and Margaret (Taylor) Patterson in Wilkensberg, Pa. John entered into marriage with the former Catherine Louise Brose on Friday, Sept. 5, 1947.
John served our country as a member of the United States Armed Forces.
A retired petroleum engineer with Royal Dutch/Shell Oil Company, John began his career there in 1947, and he and his wife would live in 26 different areas around the world before retiring in 1983. They moved to Traverse City permanently in 1977.
John was an avid golfer, playing everyday and sometimes twice a day when he could. He also enjoyed watching and tracking the stock market, as well as keeping up on current events.
John is survived by his wife, Catherine; and a sister, Marion Patterson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
