NORTH PORT, FLA. — John E. D. Boudler, 72, of Higgins Lake and a winter resident of North Port, Fla. since 2003, passed away on Oct. 14, 2012. He was born on Friday, Nov. 24, 1939 in Canton, Ohio, though most of his life and time was spent in northern Michigan. For high school, John enrolled away from home at Culver Military Academy in Culver, Ind. where he played varsity football and excelled in horsemanship with the Culver Black Horse Troop. John also spent the summers between the academic years at Culver summer naval school, where he developed his skills and interest in boating, sailing and water sports. After graduation in 1958, John enrolled at the University of Oklahoma, where he studied petroleum management and business, graduating in 1962 with a B. S. Degree. John worked in the petroleum and energy industry his entire career. In 2003, he retired from DTE Energy as an energy trader, where he was involved in the national wholesale trade of natural gas, electricity and petroleum.
An avid reader, John also enjoyed boating, sailing and fishing throughout his life, and later became accomplished at Bocce. John is the beloved father of two sons, Morgan K. Boudler of Fort Wayne, Ind., and John E. "Jack" Boudler of Avon, Ohio. His daughter, Fleur Beckett Nachand lives in Snyder, Texas. John was also the proud grandfather to three grandchildren, Haley, John and Zachary. He also leaves behind his longtime companion, Linda Cagle of North Port, Fla.
A visitation time will take place from 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov.10 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. A celebration of John's life will begin at 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 10, also at the funeral home with Father Daniel Richards of Grace Episcopal Church officiating.
