BEULAH -- Mark "Jerry" Jerome Power Jr., 64, of Beulah, died Sept. 27, 2009, at his home.
He was born the son of Mark and Mary Power on Sept. 27, 1945, in Bad Axe. Jerry married Patricia Gray on Nov. 13, 1971.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Army Commendation Medal.
Jerry was a well-known artist who participated in several artist-in-residency programs, including two in national parks -- Sleeping Bear Dunes and Indiana Dunes. He belonged to several art organizations, among them, the International Association of Pastel Societies, of which he was a Master Circle member; the Great Lakes Plain Air Painters Association, in which he held a master painter designation; and The Pastel Society of America, signature member. He won several awards for his pastels.
His love of family and up north, along with his passion in sharing his artistic skills, will be greatly missed by many.
He is survived by wife, Patricia; daughters, Elizabeth Power and Kelli (Doug) Cole; granddaughter, Addison Gray Cole; parents, Mark and Mary Power; and Lanora Gray; and many beloved extended family and friends.
Visitation will be today, Sept. 30, from 3 to 9 p.m., at Lee-Ellena Funeral Home, 46530 Romeo Plank, Macomb, MI. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Cress officiating. Burial will be in Champion Hills Cemetery in Benzie County on Friday, Oct. 2, at 1 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family for an art scholarship to be established in Jerry's memory.
