MESICK -- Lois L. McCann Butler, 84, of Mesick, passed away after a lengthy illness on Oct. 29, 2009, at the Country Pleasures Assisted Living facility in Traverse City, with her family at her side.
Lois was born in Flint to Leo and Mildred McCann on Feb. 3, 1925. She married Cecil Butler on Nov. 28, 1942, and they had nearly 67 years together. They raised their two children and had a wonderful life in their country home that friends came to know as "Butlerville."
Lois worked as a secretary to the superintendent at Mesick Consolidated Schools from 1943 until 1955. She became a well-known businesswoman in Traverse City, working as an executive assistant and real estate broker until her retirement in 1986.
Lois's greatest joy was her family, and entertaining friends and family at her home.
She is survived by her husband, Cecil; her daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Ken Abraham of Mesick; son and daughter-in-law, Kent and Mary Butler of Alpharetta, Ga.; six grandchildren, Christopher (Maggie) Abraham, Jason (Ann) Abraham, Kent, Emily, Hannah, and Madison Butler; and five great-grandchildren.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Leo Jr.; and an infant granddaughter.
A Celebration of Life and gathering of friends and family will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Buckley Old Engine Show Club House in Buckley.
