Katherine A. Thompson

TRAVERSE CITY — Katherine A. Thompson, 92, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, at her home in Traverse City. Kate was born on Dec. 24, 1919, in Detroit, the daughter of William and Minnie (Murto) Fick.

She graduated from Traverse City High School in 1938 then attended Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, studying dress design.

Kate worked at Munson Medical Center in radiology for 17 years, retiring in 1981.

She enjoyed writing poetry, reading and computers. Kate was an avid gardener and very skilled at crocheting; she made all of her own clothing.

Kate is survived by her niece, Cathee (Lewis) Burden; great-nieces and great-nephews, Lewis Jr., Deborah Green and Larry Burden; great-great-nephews, Adam Warner, Chris and Elijah Smith, and Jacob Burden; and great-great-nieces, Liliya and Briar Burden, Victoria Green and Naina Burden.

Preceding Kate in death were her parents; sister, Elizabeth Fick Godfrey; former husbands, Lee Funk, Raymond Engle and in 1989 Charles Thompson.

Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cherryland Humane Society.

Kate's family wishes to offer a very special thank you to her caregiver of 10 years, Beth Hentshell.
