Wilford C. Spoor

BEAR LAKE — Wilford C. Spoor, 90, of Bear Lake, died Jan. 30, 2012, at Birchwood Nursing Center in Traverse City. He was born April 6, 1921, in Traverse City, the son of George and Matilda (Pops) Spoor.

Wilford was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his efforts.

He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Read-Osborne Post #531 in Copemish. Wilford was also a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

Wilford retired in 1979 as a road construction supervisor with Holloway Construction Company in Wixom, where he had been employed for over 20 years.

In his spare time Wilford enjoyed hunting, fishing and going camping with his family.

Wilford is survived by his daughter, Shari (Robert) Milks, of Two Rivers, Wis.; his sons, Stephen (Julie) Spoor, of Copemish, and David (Eileen) Spoor, of Ruskin, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Ronald (Joan) Spoor, of Flushing, and Donald Spoor and Robert Spoor Sr., of Mesick.

Wilford was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce in 2006; three brothers, Harold, William and Theodore; and four sisters, Virginia, Ruby, Jean and Sally.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at the Marilla Township Cemetery in Marilla, with military honors conducted under the auspices of the Read-Osborne American Legion Post #531.
