GILLS PIER — Dorothy Anne Kalchik, 84, of Gills Pier, passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Munson Medical Center, with her family at her bedside.

Dorothy was born Oct. 31, 1928, in Suttons Bay Township, the daughter of Joseph W. Sedlacek and Frances (Kolarik) Sedlacek. On June 19, 1948, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Gills Pier, she married Wencel Joseph Kalchik, who preceded her in death on Jan. 23, 2009.

Dorothy was a great homemaker; she loved her family and especially enjoyed entertaining at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

She loved dancing, cooking and had a special talent when it came to her garden.

Dorothy worked most of her life in the retail business at Woolworths and Meijer.

Dorothy was very devoted to her Catholic faith. While in Lansing she served as Eucharistic Minister at St. Therese Church.

Dorothy is survived by her two sons, Philip Wencel Kalchik and Duane Joseph (Joanie) Kalchik; three siblings, Elsie Casper, Genevieve Patterson and Mary Jo Plamondon.

Visitation will be held Monday, Feb. 4, from 4 to 8 p.m., with the rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m., at the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay. The Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church of Gills Pier. Father Zeljko Guberovic of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church will serve as celebrant. Burial in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery will be announced in the spring.
