Carol Loy Knapp

INTERLOCHEN — Carol Loy Knapp, 76, of Interlochen, died Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. She was born April 5, 1935, in Franklin, N.H., the daughter of Hector and Dorothy (McDonald) MacKay.

Carol had been employed by Target in Traverse City for over 20 years. She started out working in the café. She then worked as a cosmetics stocker and occasionally worked as a cashier.

Carol was truly a people person who loved spending time with her co-workers, her family and her friends.

She sold Avon for over 30 years and loved to crochet. She enjoyed traveling to Mackinac Island and watching the birds on her birdfeeder outside her window. She also loved to spend time with her family and friends and going out to eat.

Carol is survived by her daughter, Toni (George) Hillier, of Honor; her grandchildren, Kirstin Gilland, of Clarksville, Tenn., Tiffany (Darrin) Clem, of Traverse City, Travis Hillier, of Honor, and Crystal Howland, of Thompsonville; her great-grandchildren, Lillian and Joslin Hoeksema, of Thompsonville; her sisters, June Knapp, of Beulah, and Gayle Gilbert, of Concord, N.H.; her sister-in-law, Dolly White, of Beulah; numerous nieces and nephews; and her family at Target.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her grandson, Kyran Lee Gilland; and her brother, Stuart "Butch" MacKay.

Memorial services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, June 18, 2012, at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah.
