TRAVERSE CITY — Allene Ruth Rokos, 85, a native of Traverse City passed away peacefully Monday, June 18, 2012, at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City.

Allene was born Thursday, Sept. 30, 1926, to the late Julius and Glada Davis Stricker in Traverse City. She graduated from Traverse City High School. She married Howard Rokos on Thursday, July 19, 1945, in Traverse City. He preceded her in death on May 4, 1984.

Allene had been employed by Traverse City Area Public Schools in the kitchen, and later worked in the kitchen at the Arnell Engstom School for Children at the State Hospital.

A regular visitor at the casinos, Allene also enjoyed playing bingo, bowling, and dancing — especially polkas. She was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Cherryland VFW Post 2780.

She is survived by her children, Gene (Gail), Don (Darlene), and John (Mary); her grandchildren, John Rokos Jr., Richard Rokos, Mark (Rachelle) Rokos, Jenell (Christopher) Gauthier, Megan (Dustin) Ogello; four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Lainee, Garrett and Leland; her sisters, Elamae (Jim) Loomis, Emma Lou Blackmore; brothers, Richard (Cheryl) Stricker, Rodney (Jeanne) Stricker; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Allene was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Lou Kirkey; sisters, Winifred Walter and Deanna Long; and her brothers, Julius "Sonny" Stricker and William "Bing" Stricker.

Visitation for friends and family will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 21, also at the funeral home. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery in Long Lake Township.
