Charles R. Gray Jr.

TRAVERSE CITY — Charles Roy Gray Jr. passed away peacefully on Jan. 27, 2012, at home after a long illness. He was 84-years-old.

Born Nov. 25, 1927, in Flint, Chuck served in the United States Army and then returned home.

He earned a degree in pharmacy at Wayne State University.

Chuck pursued his career in Bay City, where he worked many years at Layerer's Pharmacy and in later years at Country Drugs.

In 1952 he married Elizabeth A. Libey, who survives and took care of Chuck to the end. Chuck and Betty had three children, two of whom survive, son, Charles (Joanne) Gray III, of Spring Lake, and daughter, Carol (John) Lesperance, of Maple City.

Chuck will be remembered most for his outgoing personality, his quick smile and witty sense of humor. Chuck was an avid reader, enjoyed his fishing trips to the U.P. with his buddies, playing cards, crossword puzzles and long walks in the woods or on the beach. He also prided himself on having the nicest lawn on the block.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Sr. and Isabelle (LaCombe) Gray. In addition, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Cathy Anne Gray; and his sister, Jeanne Plummer, of Bay City.

Cremation has taken place. A private family gathering will be planned for a future date.

Memorial donations can be directed to Munson Hospice or the Cherryland Humane Society, both in Traverse City.

Please visit Charles' webpage at www.lifestorynet.com to sign the online guestbook and share a memory with his family.

The family is being served by Life Story Funeral Home in Traverse City.
