L&P: Finish the job

I echo the praise by the Record-Eagle in their recent editorial of the work of Traverse City Light and Power to bury their overhead utility lines on Bay Street. Unfortunately, one might have assumed from the editorial that TCL&P had rid Bay Street and our cherished waterfront of all of their power lines and poles. As you drive west on Bay Street or Grandview Parkway look left and note all of the poles and lines that still stretch from Division all the way to M-72. This end of our bay front should not be neglected. These poles and lines are as unsightly as those being eliminated east of Division. I would ask the Record-Eagle and the citizens of Traverse City to encourage TCL&P to finish the courageous work of cleaning up our bay front that they began by closing their power plant and now burying all of the power lines along Bay Street.

Tell drivers thank you

I would like to come to the defense of the Bay Area Transit Authority in the recent accident. Yes, this is a tragedy; thankfully there were no serious injuries, but I would like to have each and every person ride the bus for a day and see what the bus drivers have to put up with. People pull out in front of them, speed up behind the buses then slam on the brakes, beep their horns when the bus doesn’t move fast enough after making a stop, listen to the customers complain about the bus ride being too slow, running behind schedule, and being too hot to too cold. The bus drivers have a lot of responsibility and do their best. Let’s point out the positive things BATA does, and tell the drivers thank you for their services.
