Repeal could be costly

This is what's at stake if the Republicans repeal the Affordable Care Act. (These provisions are taken directly from the Affordable Care Act.)

  • Pre-existing medical condition premiums could increase or individuals could be excluded from the insurance plan.
  • Medicaid won't be expanded to include all individuals and families with incomes up to 133 percent of the poverty level.
  • Health insurance exchanges will not be in place so small businesses can compare policies and premiums.
  • Minimum standards for health insurance will not be in place and lifetime coverage caps could be in place.
  • Small businesses may not be able to get subsidies it they purchase insurance through an exchange.
  • Co-payments, co-insurance and deductibles might not be eliminated for select health care insurance benefits considered to be part of an essential benefits package.
  • Support for medical research could be eliminated.
  • Dependents up to age 26 maybe cut from their parents' plan.
  • The Medicare Part D coverage gap will continue.
  • Insurers could drop policy holders if they get sick.
  • Companies could drop early retiree benefits.

You lose if Republicans eliminate the Affordable Care Act.
