Don't get side-tracked
I would like to respond to Grafton Thomas' letter to the Record-Eagle readers, published Sunday, Jan. 22. I understand frustration with the monetary disparity that exists between the captains of our industries and the workers in those industries.
However, I'm unclear as to the source of this frustration. Is it his assertion that if the captains made less money there would be more for the employees? Or that the people that run the multinational corporations simply make too much money? What would be an equitable solution? Would it be to take the fortunes from the rich? Then what? Who would we hire to run those companies? No one would want to do that job for free. And if we did find someone to lead those restructured companies, how would that improve your lot in life?
We are all faced with greater and seemingly insurmountable challenges in today's economy. I just want to warn not to get side-tracked from what will help us through our challenges.
William Arthur Ward explained, "The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails."
