Secret deer baiters beware. The state Department of Natural Resources and Environment, aided by vigilante Internet viewers, know deer bait when they see it.
The DNRE has twice cited Ken Borton of Gaylord because leftovers from his bird feeders, which are suspended about six feet above the ground, attract deer. He's been turned in by a few people who visit www.snowmancam.com, a site he runs that features a camera focused on a snowman. They like to see the snow come and go.
But a few also noticed the deer. After 40 to 80 hours of investigation, the DNRE has twice cited Borton. The first case was dismissed. The second one has been adjourned to April 1.
How perfect.
