Truck crash kills Kalkaska man

GAYLORD -- A Kalkaska man died after his vehicle crashed into a semi-truck.

Timothy Lyle Luchenbill, 21, of Kalkaska, died around noon Thursday after his truck crossed the center line near M-32 and Hallock Road in Otsego County's Elmira Township, and collided with a semi-truck. The semi-truck rolled over and its contents spilled onto the highway, according to a statement from the Michigan State Police Gaylord Post.

Luchenbill and the driver of the semi-truck were taken to Otsego Memorial Hospital. Luchenbill died shortly after he was admitted to the hospital, while the semi-truck driver was treated for minor injuries.

Bird feeders run afoul of deer-baiting ban

Ken Borton, of Gaylord, runs a Web site that's viewed by thousands each day, where anyone can log on and check the snow depth in prime snowmobile territory and whether any critters are creeping around his bird feeders. And that's the problem. Deer seem to like his feeders too.

Plane crash victims remembered

Matt Rooyakker heard many things in the wake of an Otsego County plane crash that killed two well-known Gaylord residents, but one stuck in his mind. "The comment was it always seems that tragedy happens to the good ones," said Rooyakker, president of the Gaylord Chamber of Commerce board, who knew both victims.
