Sons of American Revolution meet

TRAVERSE CITY — The Northern Michigan Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will meet jointly with the Michigan Society Sons of the American Revolution (MISSAR) Board of Managers on Saturday, Oct. 2.

The meeting will be held at the Elks Lodge, 625 Bay St. It will start with lunch at 12:30 p.m. followed by a regular business meeting at 1 p.m. and an evening social event starting at 4:30 p.m. Spouses are invited.

Community is invited to pig roast

BRETHREN — Epworth United Methodist Church will host a pig-roast dinner as a way to bring together the community.

The meal will be served from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at the church, 3939 High Bridge Road. Donations will be accepted but are not expected. For details, call 477-5626.

Silent auction and harvest dinner

ELK RAPIDS — The Women's Association of the First Presbyterian Church of Elk Rapids will host a silent auction and a harvest dinner.

Silent auction bidding will be open from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., and the meal will be served from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at the church, 404 Spruce St. Meal tickets are $9 for adults, $3 for children ages 5 to 11, and free for children ages 4 and younger.

Store's sales will help out women

TRAVERSE CITY — The Ben Franklin Discount Store will hold a Fight Like a Girl night to benefit the mammogram assistance program at Munson Medical Center.

Look for coupons in the Traverse City Record-Eagle for discounts; there also will be drawings, snacks and more. The event will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, at the store near the corner of Eighth and Garfield.

A percentage of sales will be donated to the mammogram program. For more information, call 946-8285.

Historical society offers fall event

LAKE ANN — The Almira Historical Society invites the community to attend the fall "Family Fun and Music at the Museum." The event, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, will include live music on the porch, children's games, cider, doughnuts, apples and popcorn. There is no charge to attend. Visitors also can stop in and see the museum.

The museum is located at 19440 Maple St. in the village of Lake Ann. This historical society is dedicated to preserving the heritage of Almira Township and the Village of Lake Ann.
