Surf, wake board clinic on Saturday

TRAVERSE CITY -- Grand Bay Marine will host a surf and wake board clinic Saturday on Boardman Lake.

Participants will be able to get an individual session on learning to ski or wake board from a professional from Nautiques.

Half of the proceeds from the event will go to the Gladhander. Also, Grand Bay Marine will donate $10 to Gladhander every time someone over 21 demos a Nautiques.

The cost is $75 per person for the first child, then $50 for each additional child.

Open water fishing provides an outlet

While some lakes to the north may have enough ice for fishing, the southern half of the Lower Peninsula is still experiencing no ice or unsafe ice conditions, so some are now open water fishing, the DNR said.

Power Island hunting permits for sale

Bow hunters will get a shot at Power Island's 50 deer until Jan. 1, or until they've killed half the herd.
Grand Traverse County will allow 10 hunters at a time on the 220-acre island in West Grand Traverse Bay for a fee of $20 per hunt. Hunters will have one week to bag a deer before their permits expire.
County officials prefer hunters take a doe to better control the island's deer population.
