Trojans sweep season-opening triangular

Walker, Cadote, Schwannecke power Trojans

TRAVERSE CITY — Molly Walker and Courtney Cadote each were in on four firsts Thursday as the Traverse City Central girls won a tri-meet.

The Trojans had 91.5 points. They were followed by Benzie Central (69.5) and Kingsley (14).

Walker won the shot put (33-9), the discus (97-1), the high jump (5-0) and the 300 hurdles (52.69).

Cadotte took the long jump (15-11.25), the 200 (26.87), teamed with McKenna Beers, Brianna Podsaid and Taylor Olson to win the 400 relay (53.27) and 800 relay (1:52).

Other winners for TC Central included Olson in the pole vault (8-0), Erin Lipp in the 400 (1:05) and Molly Peregrine in the 3200 (12:14).

Benzie Central's Theresa Warsecke won the 1600 (5:29), Alyssa Bennett took the 800 (2:27) and Alikay Hamilton won the 100 dash (12.9). Bennett, Warsecke, Jordan Nye and Miranda Besey won the 1600 relay (4:21) while Warsecke, Bennett, Bryce Cutler and Makayla Huddleston took the 3200 relay (9:53.74).

Kingsley's Sara Lueck won the 100 hurdles (17.49).

On the boys side, T.J. Schwannecke won the 200 (22.98) and ran on three victorious relays as Traverse City Central won a triangular at Central.

The Trojans finished with 109 points, Kingsley 34.5 and Benzie Central 30.5.

Schwannecke teamed with Tyler Clark, Joe Prokes and Cooper Macdonell to win the 400 relay (45.74). Sem Novikov replaced Prokes on the winning 800 relay (1:36.9). Schwannecke, Macdonell, Matt Moss and Kevin Leahy took the 1600 (3:44.78).

Clark captured the 100 (11.06), Forrest Lewallen the 400 (57.38), Kyle Dotterrer the 1600 (4:36.58) and Nicholas Tarsa the 3200 (10:39.78).

In the field events, Central's Aaron Taylor claimed the high jump (6'2"), Ryan Gemmell the pole vault (12'1"), Novikov the long jump (20'6") and John Piatek the discus (122'10").

Kingsley's Ben Simpson swept the hurdles, winning the 110 high hurdles (15.27) and 300 low hurdles (41.50).

Benzie's Gerrit Buist took the 800 (2:04.47) and teamed with William Huddleston, Travis Clous and Ismael Halawek to win the 3200 relay (8:34).
