TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Central placed seventh recently in the high school equestrian state finals.
It was Central's best finish in school history. The Trojans advanced after winning district and regional titles.
Central produced two state champions — Madeline Aulicino in Western Equitation and Western Bareback, and Samantha Donohue in Hunt Seat Showmanship.
Other top finishers from the Trojans: Taylor Henriet, third in Trail; Susie Ness, third in Hunt Seat Bareback; Nick Musser, fifth in Hunt Seat Showmanship; Mikeala Ludka, ninth in Saddle Seat Showmanship.
In the Michigan High School Horsemanship Association regional championship, Central beat out six other Division A schools. The Trojans finished the event with 459 total points, topping second place Lowell, which had 336 points. Every rider on Central's 12-person team contributed points to the win.
Top finishes included: Aulicino placed first in Trail, Western Bareback, Western Riding Pattern and Saddle Seat Pattern and second in Western Equitation and Saddle Seat Showmanship; Ness placed first in Western Equitation, Saddle Seat Equitation, Hunt Seat Bareback and second in Western Bareback; Donohue placed first in Western Showmanship and second in Saddle Seat Showmanship; Abbey Yanska placed first in both Stake races and third in both Clover Leaf races; Henriet placed second in Trail and Hunt Seat Showmanship and third in Western Equitation and Hunt Equitation; Chelsea Reyher placed second in the Stake race; Brooke Wessel and Jeannie Longton placed third and fifth in the two-man relay; Jeannie Longton placed third and fourth in the Stake race and fifth in the Clover Leaf; Ludka placed third in Hunt Seat Showmanship and fourth in Trail; Mackenzie Monroe placed fourth in Hunt Seat Bareback; Musser placed fourth in Hunt Seat Showmanship; and Shannon Weaver placed seventh in the Flag Race and the two-man relay with Rehyer.
