Track Roundup: West girls, Central boys shine

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City West won 11 of the 17 events Tuesday at TC Central in a non-scoring dual.

The Titans had three firsts from Dani Brzezinski. She won the 200 (27.79), teamed with Kathryn Walters, Kaylee VanDommelin and Lilia Favela in the 1600 relay (4:29) and won the 800 relay (1:56.72) with Celia Jabour, Margaux Lancaster and Meghan Cepela.

Savannah Stuart-Dahl won the 100 (13.21) and teamed with Ruth Hines, Hannah Schnack and Walters to win the 400 relay (53.49).

Hines won the 100 hurdles (16.75), VanDommelen took the 1600 (5:37), Savela won the 400 (1:04), Hannah Rickard took the 3200 (12:12), Loren Wagner won the discus (94'8") and Bridget Bernhard won the shot put (29'3").

TC Central's Molly Tompkins won the 800 (2:37) and teamed with Jessica Krantz, Olivia LaBonte and Maren Bahra to win the 3200 relay (10:44).

Mallory Weaver won the 300 hurdles (52.77), Emily Grof the long jump (15'.25"), Molly Walker the high jump (4'10") and Taylor Olson the pole vault (8').

Central won 12 events in the boys meet. The Trojans were led by Tyler Clark and Mike Heim. Clark won the 100 (10.89) and Heim the 200 (23.1). The two teamed with Ben Broad and Jack Stevens to claim the 400 relay (45.04) and 800 relay (1:33.47).

Evan Cover captured the 800 (2:04.46) and joined Ryen Keenan, Max Johnson and John Ackley to win the 3200 relay (8:33.56).

Also victorious for the Trojans: Nick Bruning in the 1600 (4:39.79), Sean Fabian in the 400 (53.49), Tim Myette in the high jump (5'8"), Phothivath Phengkhamkip in the long jump (20'8.25"), James Barbera in the shot put (49'3") and Ryan Gemmell in the pole vault (13').

West's Cody Russell swept the hurdles, winning the 110 in 15.45 and the 300 in 41.42. Sebby Kucera captured the 3200 (10:27.50) and Conner Kostrzewa the discus (140'4"). Gunnar Brammer, Scott Ringwelski, Jesse Schwartz and Russell took the 1600 relay (3:36.60).

Benzie Central sweeps

David Rhodes won the 110 hurdles (17.8), 300 hurdles (47.9) and pole vault (11') as Benzie Central claimed a three-team Northwest Conference track meet.

The Huskies finished with 132 points, Frankfort 37 and Buckley 13.

Also victorious for Benzie: Felipe Flores in the long jump (18'2"), Matt Gould in the shot put (40'), Ben Thaxton in the high jump (5'10"), Rick Jones in the 1600 (4:47) and 800 (2:10), Maurice Nash in the 200 (24.3) and William Huddleston in the 3200 (10:29). Benzie also won the 3200 (9:11), 800 (1:37) and 400 (48.5) relays.

Frankfort's Justin Heniser won the 100 (11.9) and 400 (52.6). The Panthers also took the 1600 relay (3:54).

Buckley's Jeff Dreves won the discus (106'1").

Jill Lousignau captured the high jump (4'8"), the long jump (14'8") and 100 hurdles (17.3) as Benzie won the girls event with 127 points. Frankfort had 30 points and Buckley 23.

Benzie also picked up wins from Abby Secor in the 100 (14.6), Taylor Nye in the 1600 (5:53), Michaela Carnegie in the 400 (1:00.2) and 3200 (13:15), Taylor Wichtner in the 300 hurdles (48.9) and Miranda Besey in the 800 (2:43.5). The Huskies also won the 3200 (11:13), 800 (1:55) and 400 (55.4) relays.

Frankfort's Hannah Beale claimed the pole vault (8').

Buckley's Emily Gibler took the shot put (32'8") and discus (105'2). Buckley won the 1600 relay (4:42).

Suttons Bay, Kingsley win

Ben Wynsma and Ian Callewaert were double-winners as Suttons Bay won a four-team Northwest meet.

The Norsemen had 97.5 points, Kingsley 62, Mesick 53.5 and Glen Lake 43.

Wynsma won the 800 (2:01.26) and 1600 (4:34.56) while Callewaert took the long jump (18'4.75") and 400 (56.56).

Also winning for Suttons Bay: Travis Smith in the pole vault (11') and Juan Reyes in the 3200 (11:34.13). Suttons Bay won the 3200 (9:12.49) and 1600 relays (3:49.87).

Kingsley's Josh Nix earned wins in the 110 hurdles (17.20) and 300 (43.10). Dillon Carter was first in the discus (103'5"). Kingsley won the 800 relay (1:39.79).

Mesick picked up wins from Pete Beckelic in the shot put (41'3") and Mike Rojas in the 100 (11.87). The Bulldogs took the 400 relay (47.39).

Matt Sousa won the high jump (5'2") and Elliott Clark the 200 (24.20) for Glen Lake.

Bre Nickerson claimed the high jump (4'6") and long jump (13'6") as Kingsley took the girls meet with 97 points. Mesick had 68, Suttons Bay 60 and Glen Lake 16.

Other winners for Kingsley: Kayla Johnson in the pole vault (7'), Sarah Lueck in the 100 hurdles (17.65), Katey Garey in the 100 (14.52), Maddie McCarthy in the 400 (1:07.07), Brittany Simmerson in the 800 (2:55.02). Kingsley also took the 3200 (11:30.34) realy.

Mesick won four events — Paige Fuller in the 200 (29.28) and the 400 (55.48), 800 (1:57.30) and 1600 (4:39.30) relays.

Angela Patterson won the discus (103'5"), Savana Lezotte the 300 hurdles (56.17) and Rory Price the 1600 (6:31.98) and 3200 (14:34.12) for Suttons Bay.

Glen Lake's Dani Frost took the shot put (35'8").
