MAPLE CITY — Glen Lake's Scotlyn Brengman eclipsed the 1,000-point mark in her career in the first quarter of a 50-25 Northwest Conference girls basketball victory Thursday over Frankfort.
Coming in needing only three points to hit the milestone, she quickly completed that and then went on to rack up 21 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Jordan Peplinski added nine points, seven rebounds and two blocks, while Katie Stowe had 10 points and Jessica Lee six.
Kristin Smeltzer led Frankfort with seven points.
Glen Lake (14-4, 10-2 NWC) travels Tuesday to Buckley.
GIRLS
Gaylord St. Mary 43 Inland Lakes 27
Gaylord St. Mary clamped down on defense in the second half to rally for a 43-27 Ski Valley Conference victory over Inland Lakes that clinched a share of the league title.
The Bulldogs led 19-15 at halftime before being limited to eight points to rest of the way.
Kari Borowiak scored 19 points to lead the Snowbirds (18-2, 15-1 SVC), who are off until hosting districts starting Feb. 25.
Christina Smith and Mary Spyhalski scored nine points apiece for the Snowbirds.
Sarah Kolb scored 12 points to lead Inland Lakes.
Joburg-Lewiston 75 Mancelona 29
Abby Schlicher was all over on defense, leading Johannesburg-Lewiston to a 75-29 Ski Valley Conference victory over Mancelona that gave the Cardinals a share of the league crown.
Schlicher had seven steals and five blocks in addition to 16 points. Brittany Cherwinski and Katelyn Weaver had eight points each, while McKenzie Mathewson and Hannah Huff each grabbed six rebounds. Sydney McKinney had five steals and three assists.
Forest Area 44 Pellston 42
Forest Area came back from a 12-point deficit in the fourth quarter for a 44-42 Ski Valley Conference win over Pellston.
The Warriors (3-12) had 15 points and eight rebounds from Kourtni Birgy while Emily Gonyer had eight points, eight steals and five assists. Dani Johne also had six rebounds and three steals.
Kelly Lewis had 16 points for Pellston.
Bellaire 35 Onaway 34
Bellaire went on a 21-10 run in the second half for a 35-34 Ski Valley Conference win over Onaway.
The Eagles (12-7, 10-7 SVC) had seven points and four rebounds from Renee LaLone while Leighten Koepke had seven and two steals. Katie Thornton had seven points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Callie Shimel had 13 points for Onaway.
Kingsley 64 Buckley 20
Kingsley kept its lead in the Northwest Conference with a 64-20 win over Buckley.
The Stags (15-3, 11-1 NWC) are a game up on Glen Lake with two league opponents remaining.
Autumn Goggin led the way for Kingsley with 11 points, six steals and five assists. Danielle Fulker had 11 points and five assists, Sarah Lueck had 10 points, five steals and four assists while Katie Travis had nine points and eight rebounds.
Bailee Kuhn had six points for Buckley.
Benzie Central 43 Mesick 23
Benzie Central outscored Mesick 17-9 in the second half for a 43-23 Northwest Conference win.
Jordan Nye led the Huskies (12-6, 10-3 NWC) with 13 points, six steals, six rebounds and four assists. Chrissy Spoor had nine points for the Bulldogs.
Benzie is at Ludington on Tuesday.
Ellsworth 42 Boyne Falls 32
Ellsworth picked up a 42-32 Northern Lakes Conference win over Boyne Falls.
The Lancers (9-8, 7-3 NLC) had 14 points from Tara Essenberg while Kendra Warner had 10 points and 12 rebounds. Kari Steenwyk had 17 rebounds.
Raegen Padiego had 10 points for the Loggers.
BOYS
TC West 59 Gaylord 38
TC West had a strong defensive game in a 59-38 Big North Conference win over visiting Gaylord.
The Titans (11-6) had 15 points from Alex Scott, 11 points and six rebounds from Kendrick Meyer, four rebounds and five assists from Nate Castor and five rebounds by Zach McGuire.
TC West led 14-2 at the end of the first quarter and 26-13 at half.
Zach Pasternik had 14 points for the Blue Devils.
The Titans avenged an earlier loss in the JV game with a 54-32 win. Sean Grabowski and Trevor Goudey each had seven points for the Titans (9-8, 6-5 BNC) while Thiyo Lukusa had seven rebounds.
In the freshman game, TC West won 58-35 to move to 10-5. Josh Roman scored 14 points while Jared Roth and Jake Cerny each had eight.
