KALKASKA — Traverse City St. Francis officially moved into sole possession of first place in the Lake Michigan Conference, finishing off a postponed league win over Kalkaska.
The Gladiators led the Blazers by 10 with 10:32 remaining when their first meeting of the season Dec. 22. It was called by officials because the playing surface became slippery due to a new de-icing compound used in the parking lot that was tracked into the gymnasium by spectators.
This time around, St. Francis slipped into first by itself with a 51-39 victory.
There won't be much time between the completion of the first meeting and the start of the second. The two teams play again Friday in Traverse City.
"They have a great defensive team," Kalkaska coach Dave Dalton said. "It's always going to be a challenge to play 32 minutes against them. But we got more easy shots in 10 minutes (Tuesday) than in the first 22 minutes. ... We have a good team, too; we just have to play like it."
Kelli Guy led Kalkaska (10-2, 6-1 LMC) with 17 points, Sophy Menestrina had 11 points and 11 rebounds and Jamie Myas chipped in nine points.
No details were reported for TCSF.
