TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Central moved on to the Scott Miller Memorial Holiday Invitational Tournament semifinals with a 7-2 victory Thursday over the Bay Reps.
Jon Russell scored two first-period goals as the Trojans skated to a 4-2 lead by the first intermission. Andrew Froese and Austin Mackey also added goals, while Alex Oliver, Cooper Macdonell, Cam Givens, Connor McGraw and Reily deTar drew assists. Both Reps goals came from Zach Hill, assisted by Trevor Apsey and Chase Joppich.
Central added second-period goals by Cooper Marshall and Macdonell — assisted by Nico Saco and Russell — and Mitchell Ward's short-handed goal set up by Oliver capped off the scoring.
Bill Vermetten made 11 saves for Central (7-1), while Jay Jones had 16 for the Reps.
The Trojans play Plymouth Salem today at 7:30 in the semifinals, with Toledo St. Johns and Saginaw Heritage meeting in the other semi at 5:15 p.m. The Reps play Midland at 7:15 p.m.
TC West fell 4-3 to No. 5-ranked Saginaw Heritage when the Hawks scored with one second remaining off a faceoff in the West defensive zone.
