Kingsley repeats wrestling title

MANTON -- Kingsley repeated as Mid-Michigan Conference wrestling champions, winning the league tournament Saturday at Manton.

The Stags had five individual champions as the squad racked up 216 team points.

Pine River was second with 183, followed by Benzie Central (131), Manistee (105), Mancelona (101), Manton (62), Forest Area (43) and the Traverse City Central B team (18).

Kingsley had weight class champs at 103 pounds (York Ash), 112 (Dallas Sanchez), 135 (Austin Sanchez), 140 (Joe Leach) and 160 (Luke Szymshack).

Pine River had four titlists, while Benzie's Nolan Salyer (152) and Aaron Crawford (189) claimed their classes.

Forest Area's Tom Paul won at 215 pounds and Manton's David Ashley took the 119-pound title.

Central's B team was led by a fourth-place finish by 215-pounder Cody Vickers, who posted wins by pin and technical fall.

WRESTLING

Grayling claims LMC title

Grayling won the Lake Michigan Conference wrestling meet, with Traverse City St. Francis earning runner-up honors.

The Gladiators had five weight-class champions, including Jake Dalton (112 pounds), Isaiah Schaub (125), Jack Jameson (130), Alex Picardit (152) and Paul Britten (189).

Trisha Martin (103), Seth Calicutt (140) and Haydn Wilson (171) were second, while John Dalton (119) and Brian Raetz placed third.

Luke Mingee (145) was fourth.

Portage Central 2

Cooper Macdonell was one of four Traverse City Central players with two points as the Trojans defeated Portage Central 4-2.

Macdonell scored two goals -- including an empty-netter to clinch it -- while Trevor Mattis and Max Schrank each had a goal and an assist and Lucas Little added two assists.

Caleb Morgan, Alex Wietrick and Jared VanWormer also had assists for TC Central (10-10). Bill Vermetten made six saves as the Trojans outshot Portage 26-8.

BOWLING

Glen Lake boys back on top in Great Northwest

As the last regular conference week comes on the horizon for the Great Northwest Bowling Conference division standings are tightening up.

In Division III/IV for the boys, Glen Lake (4-1, 5-2) regained the top spot by beating St. Francis (4-1, 5-2) 18-12. The Lakers jumped out to a 10-0 lead after the Bakers and Caleb Abbott's 405 and Jake Johnston's 399 led the win. If the Lakers win out over Traverse City Prep on Saturday, they will lock up the division.

In the boys Division I/II, TC Central (2-1, 6-1) can exact revenge from their sole loss to TC West and take the divisional trophy. The Trojans beat TC Christian (3-2, 3-4) 24-6. Christian Vreeland's season high 484 led the Trojans in the win. Jon Tuck had a 363 in the loss.

TC West Green (1-0, 7-0) beat Bellaire (2-2, 3-4) 22-8. Titan Joe Caldwell's 388 led both teams and Jeff Odom rolled a 386 in the loss. TC West Gold (0-2, 2-5) beat TC Prep (0-5, 0-7) 29-1 and Benzie (2-3, 2-5) beat Elk Rapids (2-3, 2-5) 21-9. The Huskies' Cody Bowers rolled a 408 to lead both teams.

In the girls Division I/II, TC West Green (2-1, 6-1) and TC Central's match on Saturday will decide their division, as will the Bellaire (4-0, 6-1) and Benzie (3-1, 4-3) in their III/IV match.

West Green beat West B 29-1. Corrie McIntosh had a 354 in the win.

TC Central beat West Gold (0-2, 4-3) 20-10. Nichole Lally's 368 led the Trojans and Ashley Parent's 391 led the Titans.

TC Central B (1-0, 3-3) beat St. Francis (2-3, 2-5) 29-1.

In the boy's JV division, TC West beat Bellaire 28 to TC Central beat St. Francis 26-4 and Elk Rapids beat Vacant 22-8.

Teams move into their final conference week this Saturday at Timber Lanes starting at 11 a.m.
